IBM Expands its AI Accelerator Offerings; Announces Collaboration with AMD

Nov 18, 2024

IBM (NYSE: IBM) and AMD announced a collaboration to offer AMD Instinct MI300X accelerators as a service on IBM Cloud, targeting enterprise AI and HPC applications. Expected in the first half of 2025, this service aims to enhance performance and efficiency for generative AI models and will integrate with IBM’s watsonx AI and data platform, as well as Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® AI support.

AMD Instinct MI300X accelerators, featuring 192GB of HBM3, support large AI models, enabling cost-efficient inferencing with fewer GPUs. IBM Cloud will provide containerized support through IBM Kubernetes Service and Red Hat OpenShift, ensuring scalability and optimized performance for enterprise AI workloads.

This collaboration leverages IBM Cloud’s security and compliance capabilities to address regulated industries. IBM and AMD aim to empower enterprises with flexible, high-performance AI solutions while optimizing costs. The offering is anticipated to launch globally in 2025, enhancing hybrid cloud AI infrastructure. For more details, visit IBM’s GPU offerings.
