Amazon doubles investment in Anthropic to $8 billion

November 25, 2024

Amazon has announced an additional $4 billion investment in AI company Anthropic, bringing its total investment to $8 billion. This investment, delivered in phases starting with $1.3 billion, will be in the form of convertible notes. Amazon will continue as a minority investor, and AWS remains Anthropic’s primary training and cloud provider.

Anthropic will use Amazon’s Trainium and Inferentia chips to train and deploy its models, while AWS customers benefit from generative AI capabilities through Amazon Bedrock. AWS customers will also have early access to fine-tuning Anthropic models with their own data.
